Who funds the American Olympic Team (for any sport)?

We Answered:

It's funded primarily by sponsors, donations, and branded product sales (they get proceeds on anything with USA plus the five-ring logo).

Sports with big amateur following, like swimming, running, and shooting, can get free equipment in endorsement deals. In other sports, they athletes usually buy some or all of their own equipment.

The US government probably funds it a bit, and facilities like Colorado Springs, where many Olympians train, get state funding, but most of it comes from private sources.

A portion of the IOC's take from international sponsors and other receipts also gets divvied up (proportionately to number of athletes) amongst all the national olympic committees, of which the USOC is one.

Should the AFL prompt the Government to help fund an AFL College for Aboriginals?

We Answered:

Mate I reckon you are heading in the right direction with this, but I would make it a private school funded by as many sports as possible with the government kicking in the rest. Make sure they get a top rate education, with the top rate facilities for all the sports. Make sure girls get in equal numbers, remember the thrill of Cathy Freeman winning gold. Make sure it's in the Northern Territory, or similar area so that they are close to family (thinking that the city Aboriginal people can travel and get an education in what is happening in the rest of the country.). Then it could be tied to a facility that offers help with distance education for universities and tafe, or just a sporting scholarship, because let's face it 12 years is enough for most of us, but it would mean that after school they can continue the sporting education. I wish I had a magic wand to do it now.

Tina Said:

Why is so much government money spent on sports, instead of improving education?

We Answered:

Too many people in positions of influence have other ideas about how your tax dollars ought to be spent.
Lots of these folks have a say in how tax dollars get spent , and they get their palms greased and their pockets lined by other folks who would benefit from all kinds of ridiculous programs.
The vast majority of wasteful government spending is due to corruption and greed.Too many people in the "business" of taking care of their constituent's concerns are looking out for their own interests , and little else.
Write your local school board , or county council person , or maybe even your Congressperson or State Representative.
Let them know that you have valid concerns about where your tax dollars are going , and that you will vote accordingly come the next election.
Better yet...run for a local office on the platform of fiscal change and responsibility. You might just wake up the people in your own community.Great place to start!
