Saw something of interest on TV yeasterday that could work with a school if adapted. Parents could be asked to give each of their children £5 or so. They take the £5 and look to make as much money as possible with it over a two week period (as long as it is not illegal or anything and possibly to be approved by a teacher) - eg - buy a bucket and sponge and offer to wash the cars down their street for a small fee etc etc. Kids could club their £5s together if they wish. At the end of it they can give the £5 back to their parents or put it into the final pot of money to go to the school. Possibly offer a prize for the children who make the most money. Could really engage the children and the parents in the cause?Hope this might be of help.
