Money market mutual funds versus On-line savings account?

We Answered:

Both are designed to keep your money liquid. The MM Mutual fund is not insured and while they are designed to try to prevent losses they are not guaranteed. The on line savings account, if you are talking about an FDIC insured bank, are insured up to current FDIC levels. http://sify.com/finance/fullstory.php?id…

how does one define the money market? (hint marcia stigum's book is larger than the bible) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Money_marke…

i assume you are talking about consumer funds, which invest in the broad money market i mentioned above http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Money_fund

here is the Fed H.15 historical data, pretty reliable for what they have

define your benchmarks. LIBOR? CP? T Bills? Average them? most money funds can invest in what they want, and they are regulated by the SEC, who to my knowledge doesn't put out stats of these private companies.

Stick to the H.15 - its agreed that this is official as it gets.
