Marian Said:

Would you agree that instead of funding the Federal Department of Education we could use that $ to buy books?

We Answered:

I'm not sure what the over bloated Dept of Eduction has to do with Iraq but you are correct. It is an unnecessary Federal Department that really should be done away with. The states handled education until Carter formed this Department and it really looks like it has hurt education in this country...........

Philip Said:

When the Democrats cut Education funding in 1994 , were they thinking of the children?

We Answered:

Democrats are never thinking about the children. When they say that, they are just trying to guilt people into throwing more money at a bureaucracy that is full of - guess who - democrats.

Catherine Said:

why would a state may not wish to accept federal funding to help support education?

We Answered:

states rights. the state believes that the fed. gov. has overstepped its authority as spelled out in the constitution. civil war was fought over this concept. the issue was slavery. withholding funds always gets the state to cave in to the fed.

Joann Said:

Should Federal education funds be withdrawn from Texas?

We Answered:

Absolutely! The First Amendment separation of church and state demands that Texas be excluded from receiving any funds associated with their school system. Giving Texas back to Mexico has a certain appeal. It almost happened after the Civil War. In fact it took seven years of begging until Texas was allowed back into the union in 1872. Bet they don't want that advertised in their religious-tract textbooks.

Robert Said:

How did America become so rich without federally funded education for so long?

We Answered:

That is because back then once you were done with the 12th grade you could pick up a trade and live happy and free. The reason, America had more plants and manufacturing places right here at home and when you wanted to you could come right in and get a job which you can retire from pay your taxes which went into the government, and our own internal revenue made us strong.

Now a days it doesn't matter how much you put into the k-12 because they made college the main factor in picking a employee. Not only that the way things are now with so little good paying jobs there for you once your done with your school. It would seem a waste of time and you end up at star bucks serving coffee without the smile!
