Like any other person/institution. As they are usually large trades they would have to be worked by the brokers. Usually brokers/MMs have potential to locate large buyers or sellers of a particular stock. This is what the market is all about.The trades could be agency crosses or broker to broker, but they still end up getting marked on the system, unless of course they are done "off-market"
Look at the bargain conditions. You will see crosses, protected and unprotected basket trades etc.
