Getting into Venture Capital/Hedge Funds?

We Answered:

I assume you don't know of anyone - perhaps some of your fellow students have parents already in this field ? - if so, get them to assist ..

Otherwise, at a guess, you need to contact one of the big players in the VC / Hedge Fund game ..

Needles to say, at this exact moment in the economic cycle, a lot of finance companies are reducing staff in theses area's ...

PS To give you an edge, consider a joint Maths and Finance Degree (a MSc. or PhD is even better) .. but perhaps equally (or even more) important is bucket loads of enthusiasm, determination and an over-riding ability to 'sell' yourself ... in the VC / Hedge Fund game it seems no ego can be big enough ..

How can a company raise capital to its own projects by starting a hedge fund?

We Answered:

You want to get control of capital. I understand that. How will you convince investors to put money in your hedge fund. Investors will want to know what you're going to do with their money; they aren't going to put money into some undefined thing because you call it a hedge fund. Why not just have them put money into your company.

Eileen Said:

what fund source will you recommend to use first in the financing of the capital investment of your company?

We Answered:

I would recommend a large local bank as the first stop. The reason is simple, if they are local they will have a tendency to support local, you can build up a relationship with them over time which will help you in the future. If they are local they can come out and have a look for themselves, pretty hard if they are a hundred miles away. And lastly, banks are usually a fairly cost effective option.

Good luck, Jackson.

Why do Hedge Fund Managers pay a lower income tax than their secretaries?

We Answered:

Because the Bush government is a government of the rich. I certainly do not agree but this fits right in with the rest of the conservative wealth distribution. From the bottom and middle class to the top.

In his new book, economist Dean Baker debunks the myth that conservatives favor the market over government intervention. In fact, conservatives rely on a range of “nanny state” policies that ensure the rich get richer while leaving most Americans worse off.

Felicia Said:

Do you think hedge fund managers should pay a smaller percentage of taxes than the rest of us?

We Answered:

Well this question could be ''are you right wing or left wing?''

On a purely economic level their is an arguement for them to be taxed less highly. Incentives and the laffer curve etc.

However i believe that a tax system should be progressive, out of fairness.
