From personal experience my favorite is Vanguard. The fees aren't really that bad and their mutual funds almost always outperform the industry average.I was introduced to them because my employer is owned by Warren Buffett. Almost all of their stock funds have returned at least 12% over the last 5 years. Their Emerging Markets index has had a 23.70% return over the last 5 years. I think the next hot one will be their Pacific Index, which has had a 15.62% return over the last 5 years but is only $13.18 a share right now, so you can buy lots and everyone knows how much growth and profit the people in the far east will be seeing over the next 5-10 years! I've pretty much put all my money into the Pacific Index now after I made some loot with the Emerging Markets fund.
My only qualm is that I am still young so I should have had all my money in Emerging Markets instead of diversifying! Had I done so I'd probably have made about 6% more a year over the last few years. :(

Ya wanna bet on which has a better handle on what is really happening? The choices are the company's books [and thus the CEO] or the stock market.

As a result of the Check 21 Act (in the USA), checks deposited generally clear (funds available) within 3 working days with most banks. Some banks give value in 2 working days if the funds are deposited early enough in the day.The Check 21 Act allows banks to process checks based on receiving an electronic image of the check. Prior to the act, they could only process based on having the physical check - which is why longer turnaround times were needed.
These turnaround are for funds deposited into an American bank that are drawn on an American Bank. Foreign checks are subject to extended holds.
